The second chakra is the sacral chakra. The Sanskrit word for the sacral chakra is ‘Swadisthana’ which is a combination of two words; ‘swa’, meaning “one’s own”, and ‘adisthana’, meaning “abode or dwelling place”. So, in literal translation, it means “one’s own dwelling place” or “where one’s self lives”.
The sacral chakra is located in the abdomen just below the navel and above the pubic bone. We take the term sacral, referencing the anatomical position of this energy center near the sacrum (which is also the root word for ‘sacred’ or ‘holy’) and so it is no surprise that this center of energy represents our emotions, our joys, pleasures, and passions. It is the chakra that is associated with creative energy, sexual energy, fertility, and reproduction. When the sacral chakra is working optimally we are happy, free to express ourselves in our relationships and our creative endeavors, able to show up intimately in all aspects of life, and we exude a joyous vibrant energy.
Location : The area just above the pelvic bone and underneath the belly button in the lower abdomen.
The aspects of the Sacral Chakra are creativity, sexuality/sensuality, self-esteem, self-control, feeling aligned with a life’s purpose, and emotional body.
The organs related to are bladder, prostate, womb, sexual organs, liver, intestines, spleen, and kidneys.
To balance the Sacral Chakra we can use tools like COLOUR, ESSENTIAL OILS, CRYSTALS,FOOD, MEDITATION, AND YOGA
COLOUR: Orange. If you’re feeling imbalanced, lack of creativity, unstable in your emotional body, or that your sexual energy is feeling off, surround yourself with the colour orange. Wear orange, accessorize your work area with orange, even just a tiny touch can shift the energy around you.
ESSENTIAL OILS: Essential oils have been used in healing and bringing balance into our bodies for centuries. The essential oils associated with balancing the Sacral Chakra are Ylang-Ylang, Rosewood, Orange, Jasmine, Neroli, Lavender, and Cardamom. All of these oils can be diffused or used topically with a carrier oil.
CRYSTALS: Some of the best stones attributed with balancing the Sacral Chakra are Amber, Sunstone, Tiger’s Eye, and Carnelian. You can place these crystals in your home or work space, carry them in your pocket or wear jewelry made with them.
FOOD: You know the saying “You are what you eat!” And food, like essentials oils, have been used to heal people for centuries. Foods that are associated with bringing balance to the Sacral Chakra are many times Orange in colour. Carrots, oranges, papayas, mangos, peaches, cantaloupe, and nuts and seeds.
MEDITATION: Mantras hold energy that helps to bring balance to our energy centers. The sound “VAM” is the sound directly associated with the Sacral Chakra and can be chanted during meditation.
The energy of the sacral chakra is in charge of our sexual organs, liver, hormones, intestines, and spleen. If the sacral chakra is blocked or imbalanced it can show up as physical symptoms such as:
sexual dysfunction
low libido
sexual addictions
addictions to substances (drugs, alcohol, etc)
pelvic pain
hormonal issues and imbalances
fertility issues
urinary issues
sciatica/lower back/hip pain
guilt
emotional imbalances
mood disorders
an overall lack of fulfillment and happiness
boredom
dissatisfaction
depression
Experiment with using the foods, essential oils, crystals, and colours associated with the sacral chakra to allow their energies to bring the energy of your sacral chakra into a balanced state. We are including several tools below to help you in finding balance in your sacral chakra.

Is shame part of my inner reality?
Do I deny myself pleasure?
Do I subconsciously find ways to shame myself or others?
Write about what brings up your feeling of shame…and then wash away the shame.
Add 1 pound of sea salt or epsom salt and a sprinkle of baking soda to a hot bath and soak for 20 minutes.
Allow your old feelings and thoughts about your past to be drawn out by the salt water. Imagine your guilt or shame dissolving into the bath as you affirm:
